Jubilee Games 2016

2016 Jubilee Games, Dubai, UAE

Congratulations to all medallists![/wpdevart_countdown]

The road to 2020 starts now.

July 2016 saw over 10,000 spectators wowed by 2,000 athletes from more than 25 countries around the world as the global Jamat came together for the 2016 Jubilee Games in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, held in association with the Dubai Sports Council.

Prince Rahim Aga Khan, together with official patron His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, officially opened the games on 23 July 2016.

During his address at the Opening Ceremony, Sheikh Nahyan remarked:

“Every one of you competitors will hope to be the victors in your sport. Although your reason tells you that some people will not win, your heart tells you that you will not be a loser. Let me assure you, both your reason and your heart are correct. Victors will be in the minority. But all of you are winners.”.

Thanking Sheikh Nahyan for his patronage of the Jubilee Games, Prince Rahim also expressed gratitude to the government of UAE for its support of the Games.

“These moments will be memorable for all of us and particularly for our young athletes who will remember these Games and cherish the memories for a very very long time.” Prince Rahim continued, “In the current times, I can think of no better way than this and of no better place than Dubai to promote the notion of bringing young minds from diverse backgrounds and different environments together in the spirit of friendship and peace.”

The spirit of #OneJamat could be felt throughout the games, as athletes, spectators and volunteers from around the word became stronger together – sharing in sports, spectatorship and, of course, entertainment. The 2016 Jubilee Games would not have been possible without the dedication of over 2,000 volunteers, many of whom worked tirelessly for over 18 months to deliver this monumental event.

Our very own Team UK, representing the UK and European Jamati jurisdiction were a united presence across all sports and were extremely proud to come away with medals in Swimming, Golf, Table Tennis and Ladies Football.

The Jubilee Games, a legacy of Mawlana Hazar Imam’s Golden Jubilee, are next expected to be held in 2020.
