What is DISCOVERY?

Launched in 2023, Discovery is a new camp for Ismaili Youth aged 11-13 (and facilitators aged 18-30) from all over the UK and Europe.

Participants will have the chance to build lasting friendships and develop independence, self-confidence, and a strong sense of unity within the community. With a focus on personal growth as well as teamwork, Discovery is the perfect place for young people to build meaningful connections, learn about themselves, and have fun in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Discovery promises to be four days full of fun, growth and friendship – it’s not one to miss!

 Camp Objectives

  • Create a fun-filled positive environment that promote a healthy, well-balanced lifestyle
  • Unite participants from all backgrounds and provide opportunities to build lifelong friendships
  • Enhance self-esteem and provide opportunities for leadership development in a safe, nurturing and supportive environment
  • Encourage a sense of pride and comfort in belonging to the Ismaili community
  • Develop a sense of identity as a Shia Ismaili Muslim and understanding of their faith

Who is it for?

The camp is open to participants aged 11–13 years who are looking to:

  • Build meaningful, life-long friendships with other Ismailis from across the UK and Europe
  • Develop their leadership, teamwork and communication skills
  • Discover their own unique strengths by challenging themselves to go beyond their comfort zone.

Facilitators (ages 18–30)

Discovery is a great introduction to camps for any first-time facilitators, as well as a fantastic stepping-stone for those who have facilitated before and want to challenge themselves in a new context. We’re looking for energetic, passionate and driven facilitators from any background!

We can offer you a chance to:

  • Develop your leadership, communication and time-management skills (which are hugely transferable into your personal and professional lives!)
  • Building meaningful connections with other Ismailis
  • Have the most fun you’ll have in a four day period this entire year (we think so, anyway!)

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Communicate with parents to ensure a smooth process from application to pick-up
  • Coordinate and lead a group of participants throughout the weekend
  • Delivering exciting and engaging content to participants and encouraging discussions
  • Provide support to participants who are experiencing camp for the first time
  • Facilitate team-building activities and games to keep participants engaged
